Manche Bücher würde ich vielleicht gar nicht entdecken, hätten sie nicht die tollen Illustrationen von Kat Menschik, von deren Kunst ich ein großer Fan bin. So ging es mir auch mit Asta Nielsons Im Paradies. Und siehe da, was habe ich nicht alles Tolles erfahren: über Hiddensee, Frauen im Film und über Ringelnatz, den ich eigentlich mit einem anderen Ort an der Ostsee verbinde. Ein wirklich hübsches kleines Büchlein, klimaneutral produziert und verlegt.
One day at one of my favorite bookstores: There was this minimally designed cover right next to the ones with vibrant colors, that attracted my attention. So I picked up the thin little book, read the text on the back of the book, and opened the first page. The simple and clear writing and the concise sentences fascinated me right away. Then, when I got home, I read the book in one sitting because I liked the dark mood that the author created and I wanted to experience, more or less, what the main character experienced in real-time. Funnily enough, I thought I’d discovered a young, up-and-coming indie author, but a quick research revealed that A Shining isn’t Jon Fosse’s first publication. After all, it’s a great book if you’re looking for a captivating, mystical break.
Natürlich kenne ich Anton Tschechow, und sicherlich habe ich auch in meiner Schulzeit mal etwas von ihm gelesen. Aber ich kann mich nicht daran erinnern. Nun hatte meine Lieblings-Literatur-Bloggerin seine Kurzgeschichten hochgelobt – und damit meinen Nerv getroffen. Ganz besonders hat mir Die Erzählung des Obergärtners gefallen, denn sie beschreibt auf sehr anschauliche Weise das Wesen von Bewertungen. Die Besten Geschichten ist auf Papier gedruckt, das gute Waldnutzung fördert.
The same blogger had already recommended Chrysalis by Anna Metcalfe several times and it had been on my reading list for a long time – and was finished after just a few days. What a great read! The interesting but also difficult personality of an influencer who reaches thousands of people via social media is described from three different perspectives. Self-perception, perception of others, role patterns, and illusion are just a few topics that come to mind when reading this entertaining story. A contemporary must-read, already one of my favorites this year. Printed on FSC paper.
